Gin Logo Design Guide Book
The project was from the course Fundamentals of Graphic Design (Teacher: Martin Lindh & Daniel Linder/ Location: Jönköping University)
Brief: Create a comprehensive brand identity for "Swedish Gin," a local producer expanding across Sweden and northern Europe. Begin with a distinct logotype, providing vector files in CMYK, RGB, Pantone, and B/W. Then, develop a Visual Identity Style Guide in PDF format, spanning 12 pages. The guide should include a table of contents, an introduction to the company with custom text demonstrating typography and layout skills, details on logo usage, presentation of typography, brand colors, and additional graphic elements. Conclude with a mood board illustrating the intended style for visuals, with an optional inclusion of mock-ups for the company's products/packages. Consider the brand's identity as clean, modern, and close-to-nature in alignment with its local, natural ethos.
Working Process
To begin, I conducted thorough research on gin, emphasizing flavor profiles, production processes, and distinct features of Swedish gin in comparison to other products in the market. Once well-versed in the subject, I coined the brand name "Nortint," signifying the northern essence visually depicted through tint, emphasizing the unique hue associated with the northern world (Sweden).
For the logo creation, I initiated the process with paper sketches, exploring various ideas before selecting a design that embodies strength—a circular contains tree shape symbolizing a juniper berry, reflective of the tree's prevalence in the northern Swedish environment. The resulting logo is clean and robust, aligning seamlessly with the intended branding.
In crafting the mood board, my focus was on evoking a watercolor atmosphere, capturing a foggy, cold sensation. This thematic choice extended to my label design, contributing to a cohesive visual identity that resonates with the brand's essence.
Skill learned
One crucial skill I acquired is the significance of preliminary research in branding. A thorough pre-study to comprehend the product is essential, laying the foundation for generating ideas that seamlessly align with the brand concept. This understanding not only influences logo design but also extends to ensuring the overall style resonates with the brand's essence and aligns with the given brief. Matching the logo, concept, and stylistic elements contributes to a cohesive and effective visual identity for the brand.
